From somebody who doesn't drink coffee very often...it has just been one of those days. Things are looking better though, I feel like after one good night's sleep, myself and the kids will be at least 90% better. Delilah seems to have gotten it the worst - you can see it in her eyes that she is not feeling very well, but she is just as busy as ever. She didn't nap yesterday or today; I have no idea how.

'Tis The Season

I can't possibly mean the holidays?? Nope. 'Tis the.... flu season!! I am not exactly sure how well that flu shot works for most people, but it apparently has no positive effect on my children. Hello cold weather, and hello influenza. Keegan and Delilah both have it! It breaks my heart to see them so miserable - they are boiling hot, runny noses, extremely tired, and.. well, I won't even begin to get into all of the messy details. For the first time in history, both of the kids were in bed asleep by 7:30 tonight. I feel so bad for them, I wish I could take their pain away. I think I'm beginning to, err, rather, catch the flu from them. As long as they get rid of it quickly and Jonas doesn't catch it (....if we all know Jonas, we know that he probably will get it) then I don't care what I have!

So that's what we're dealing with. I am really starting stress out about the month ahead. February is jam PACKED with big events, including preschool parties, teacher appreciation, bachelorette parties, company parties... Eek!

It was taken tonight as I was getting Delilah ready for bed. She just learned how to gurgle and just seconds before was talking while gurgling. I thought it was hilarious so I ran and grabbed my phone to take a video. This is what I got - not as good as talking while gurgling, but still a chance to see the silly and dramatic side of this little girl!

I've just received some devastating news, and it brings me back to this past summer, when somebody I knew was murdered.

Her name was Brittany Fox Watts, we grew up down the street from each other and I used to play with her little brother Grant. (read one of the many news articles here). I had never known anybody prior to be a victim in such a crime. I unfortunately have witnessed a drive-by shooting when I was 12, and knew things like this happen, but it was a huge pill to swallow when this beautiful soul was taken so quickly from this world.

I am not the first person to lose somebody, nor is Brittany the first person I've lost. But to lose someone in such a way..

In December 7th, just about a month ago, I lost a friend from high school - Matthew Russell. He was my age, and he suffered a heart attack with no prior known heart conditions. A heart attack, at my age? Again, you hear about things like this in the news, a "child" dying from a heart attack, but when it happens to somebody you know, it all of the sudden makes it very real. Needless to say... I will be having my heart checked out in the very near future. I suggest you do the same, no matter your age.

Then, this morning (Sunday)... My really good friend growing up, Kory, lost his brother. Ladell Crumpton was murdered in his apartment in the middle of the night (read news article here). My heart is breaking right now for Kory and his family.

The point of this post is to hold on to everything you've got, cherish it. Please pray for Kory's family, for Matthew's family, for the Fox/Watts families...pray for everybody. We could all use it.

Kitchen Island? Or Magnetic Chalkboard?

Both! We started this project on Friday morning. I spent five straight hours stripping the layers upon layers upon layers upon.... (do you get it yet?) .... of paint - my index finger has been numb since from applying so much pressure for so long. I'm beginning to think I'll never get feeling back. Then Jonas sanded it down really well.

Then we used magnetic primer on the backside, and regular primer on the two ends. Afterwards we covered it with chalkboard paint! We painted the outlet covers "brilliant metal."

The kids absolutely LOVE it! Keegan hasn't left the kitchen since we first unveiled it a couple hours ago. We knew we needed to redo our kitchen - the painters that worked on it before we moved in did an absolutely horrible job, and the paint is peeling all over the place. We are replacing the hinges on all the cabinets, stripping them all, and repainting - the correct way. For the past thirty years, they've just been painting over paint, and when the previous painters realized they couldn't remove the hardware because all of the screws were stripped, they thought it'd be a good idea to paint over it all. Screws, hinges...everything. We are having a heck of a time getting all the screws out, but it is going to be sooo worth it in the end! Hopefully before not too long I can show you the finished product. In the meantime...the kids have a gigantic drawing board! :)

First Day Back

Keegan's first day back to school was today! It was the coldest morning we have had in a while, probably all season. Poor Keegan was so tired - we all have to get back into the groove of things!

I thought these grumpy "back-to-school" faces didn't come until later in life??
But if we all know anything about Keegan, it's that even when he's tired, he's never really tired! He hasn't napped in the longest time, and still is a little ball of energy late at night! I wish I had his energy!
He says the funniest things sometimes. Today, Lila was having major issues with her belly, and I called Jonas in to help me and I guess Keegan could see that I was overwhelmed and feeling helpless, so he said to me, "You're a really good mommy!" out of the blue. I said, "Oh thank you sweetie, I just don't know what I would do if you would both be sick or something, I just couldn't take that!" He kind of chuckled then said, "That's the terrible-ist thing I've ever heard of!" It was too funny!

The other night, Jonas had told him he needed to clean up the playroom. I didn't know of this, and a few minutes go by and Keegan comes into the family room with a very serious look on his face. He says, "Mommy, I have something very dangerous I need for you to do for me. And it's getting dark outside so I need you to do it carefully and quickly. The dangerous thing I need for you to do is...clean up my cars for me." You should've seen his face. He was dead serious!

Earlier that day, I had been telling Keegan how beautiful he was and he was being just such a sweetheart all day, so I said as we were all sitting together, "How did we get so lucky? We have the best son AND the best daughter!" Keegan chimed in, speaking for himself and for Lila, "And we have the best Mommy and the best Daddy!" So I retaliated with, "AND we are all pretty!" Keegan quickly comes back with, "Well, you and Lila are pretty... me and Daddy are beautiful." He cracks me up constantly!

And another one bites the dust. 2011 was such a wonderful year for us over here. We bought our first home! Jonas got his own crew at work, and I went back to work. Keegan started school, and Delilah started so many things - walking, talking, etc. Keegan got some recognition by a couple big names in Hollywood - even if it was just "Fifteen Minutes of Fame", it was still very exciting! Also, the movie I was in ("Trespass", featuring Nicolas Cage and Nicole Kidman) was released this year.

That is just to name a few. It was overall an awesome year. Tomorrow marks the start of mine and Jonas's sixth year together. I just can't believe how quickly the time has gone by!

Of course, there is always room for improvement. So here is to bettering ourselves!!! Can't wait to see what 2012 has in store for our little family. Happy New Year everybody!!

Poor Lila has been super sick for a couple weeks now. It started with a really bad ear infection and has turned into what seems like the flu. On this day (Dec 27th) she just laid on her daddy ALL day long. I hate that she is sick, but at the same time I love that Jonas was able to bring her some comfort. :)

I hope everybody had a very Merry Christmas!! Ours was wonderful! Keegan and I have strep throat, which seemed to effect me more than him, because he was having a blast with all of his new toys. We are so incredibly blessed!! I did take some pictures on Christmas, none were really good though. We got a good hour-long home video for later years, though! It rained all day yesterday and most of the day today. We were hoping it would turn into snow but, no such luck. Here are some more pictures of Keegan playing around in a puddle today.

Have ya'll heard of "Elf on the Shelf"?

Well we finally got ours!! You get to name your own elf, and Keegan decided on Jack. So Jack sits on the shelf all day and watches us, and then when we are sleeping he flies back to the North Pole to tell Santa if the kids have been naughty or nice. He flies back here before we wake up, and sometimes he messes with things. Two nights ago, we found Jack in the play room - he had gotten all of the kids' beanie babies out and had been playing with them! Last night, I guess he decided to play a little joke on Keegan. He got all of his undies and put them all over our Christmas tree!
Keegan thought it was hilarious. He wakes up soo excited each morning. He just can't wait to find where Jack is and what he has gotten into. It is great to start the day out like this! And, of course, the "Jack is watching you" line helps to keep the kids well behaved. Can't it be the holidays all year round? ;)

We attempted to take pictures with Santa today. The kids were sooo excited to go see him, and then froze when we got there! I don't know if they were scared of him or shocked that they actually got to meet him. I am pretty sure they were scared. Lila had a grip on me like she was hanging off a cliff. So, these are the best ones we could get!

Today was Keegan's Christmas party at school. I think it was a success! I'm glad I was able to pull it off. I had the kids make a "Christmas tree" out of their handprints for their teacher, Mrs. Broussard. I will paint their name in red over their handprint, making it look like garland. Hopefully the end result will look good!

We celebrated Thanksgiving yesterday with David (Jonas's coworker), his fiancé Heather, his parents and his daughter Avery. Jonas and David work on Thursday. It was SOOO good!! Turkey, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, creamy corn casserole, spicy creamy corn casserole, green bean casserole, peas, ham, stuffing/dressing, rice and sausage, apple pie, pecan pie, upside-down cake (not really sure the name/kind of that one), and Jell-o! Talk about a feast! We were all so tired afterwards, all four of us slept about fourteen hours!

Surely, by this point, all of you know about Twitter, the relatively-new social networking site. I have a twitter, but could never really get into it. I didn't see the point of it, but let me tell you about something that I am thoroughly excited about.

What twitter is all about is that you can have followers, and you "tweet" about anything you'd like, and anybody that is following you will see your tweet on their homepage.

Tom Bergeron, the host of Dancing With the Stars and America's Funniest Home Videos, is on twitter, like nearly all celebrities, politicians, authors, people-of-interest. And 200 million of their fans.

This morning, I found out that Tom Bergeron tweeted about our very own Keegan Schuster! I ran around the house shaking for like 10 minutes (yeah..not even kidding). I am still so excited about it!

What you can also do on Twitter is "retweet" someone's tweet. Anybody can tag anybody in a tweet, but the only way it will show up on YOUR page is if you retweet it....which is exactly what Bob Saget did.

So, the way I see it, Keegan is now a celebrity. :)

Day 74 of the 365 Day Challenge

Keegan had his Thanksgiving Feast at school today! He ate turkey, cheese squares, grapes, popcorn, yogurt, and apple juice! He got to show of his Pilgrim hat and his Indian headband! It was so nice to see him with his friends (even though the entire time the parents were there he was the only child to not say a single word!) and to get a feel for what it would be like to put on a party for 12 three-year-olds!

Lila has been babbling a lot lately, but tonight she clearly said what we are calling her first words! Right as we were finishing up dinner, she kept saying "Take a bath! Take a bath! Take a bathy bath!" She must've said it 100 times. It was so exciting and she seemed quite excited about it as well. David and Heather were over for dinner tonight so they got to witness her first words as well! It was too cute :)

Last night, at 96 years old, my grandma Barney finally met Jesus. She lived a long life full of joy and laughter, and while we mourn our loss, we are happy for her. Rest In Peace, Grandma!!
